As part of Yugoslavia, Slovenia is on the verge of an economic collapse. A series of strategic decisions and firm actions takes it on a path to freedom, but its declaration of independence is immediately followed by Yugoslav troops advancing into its territory. In the maelstrom of history, we follow a family that finds itself at the crossroads of beliefs, desires, and fears. In Dream 1991, the people of Slovenia recount their experience of the events that realised their forefathers’ dreams.

Director’s statement:
»With the film, I wanted to give voice to people who changed the course of our history, often doing so in quiet, unnoticed and as yet unheard ways. I wanted to make them visible within the independence process. The extensive research gave me an inspiration for the story of the family and its own brave contribution to the birth of an independent country. «
