2023 Milka and Metod Badjura Award goes to Rado Likon

The Festival of Slovenian Film Portorož traditionally presents the Metod Badjura Award for lifetime achievement in cinema. Just before the 26th edition, the accolade was renamed the Milka and Metod Badjura Award to highlight the often-overlooked contribution of the film director and editor Milka Badjura, and reunite the leading Slovenian filmmaking couple, whose collaborative work is often impossible to separate or attribute to any one of them.

We are happy to announce that the 2023 Milka and Metod Badjura Award goes to director of photography Rado Likon, whose immense talent and dedication have left a strong mark on the Slovenian cinema and TV landscapes. As a DoP, Likon worked on more than 70 films, making his mark in legendary feature-length films such as A Summer in a Sea Shell I and II, The Years of Decision, Displaced Person, and Christophoros. Likon is also a highly esteemed educator, professor at the Ljubljana Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film, and Television, and the University of Nova Gorica School of Arts. His passionate collaboration in the restoration and digitalisation of Slovenian films makes for an essential contribution to preserving Slovenia’s film heritage.
